Kidnapped Edo Zonal Coordinator Of ASUU, Prof Igbafen, Escapes

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers reportedly abducted, the Benin Zonal Coordinator of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Prof. Monday Igbafen.

The lecturer was said to have been taken hostage at about 9pm on Saturday. However, Prof Igbafe was said to have escaped from his captorsyesterday. It was learnt that Igbafen was accosted by the gunmen while he was driving into his residence in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of the state.

His abductors were said to have taken him away to an unknown destination inside his ash coloured Toyota Highlander with registration number ABJ 180 JQ But, yesterday the Edo State Police Command said the kidnapped Benin Zonal Coordinator of ASUU successfully escaped from his abductors.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the State Command, SP Joel Yamu, when contacted said the Command is aware of the kidnap, but that the victim escaped from his abductors, adding that the police is after the suspects.

He said; “The Command is aware of the report. Operatives of the Ekpoma Division mounted pressure on the kidnappers which led to the escape of the victim. We are on the trail of the suspects to ensure they are brought to book.
