KCCN Trains Nigeria Chefs On Korean Dishes

The Korea Cultural Centre Nigeria (KCCN), is currently training Nigerian Chefs drawn from the Association of Professional Chefs Nigeria on several Korean dishes, to amongst other things, further deepen the existing relationship between the Republic of Korea and Nigeria.

The Manager, Cultural Events at KCCN, Hayoug Yu who spoke to newsmen at the end of a training session at the Red Dish Chronicles Culinary school in Abuja, noted that besides deepening relationships, KCCN hopes to see Nigerian Chefs promote and integrate Korean foods into their menu.

Yu who noted that 16 chefs have so far been trained in two separate sessions noted that though Korean dishes were complicated and delicate, they have a lot of similarities with Nigerian dishes, especially in terms of spice and pepper.

She said: “This new relationship with the Association of Professional Chefs Nigeria is the beginning of a good relationship that will help both Korea and Nigeria to further promote our individual cultures.

“We hope to see in future, Nigerian chefs promoting and introducing Korean dishes to Nigerians and the Nigerian cuisine; we can collaborate and cooperate with each other. The Korean dishes are complicated and very dedicated but I think Nigerian chefs can experience the Korean culture as well, they can promote our dishes, and try something new for everybody.

The Chef Instructor, Sharon Twavi Babale noted that Korean dishes were healthy, affordable, does not need too many ingredients and were simple to prepare.

She added that “Korean dishes are safe for elderly people, for sick people and for those that are trying to eat healthier options.”
