Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has said 40 per cent of the youths in the state are unemployed. He said this at a meeting yesterday with Emirs, religious leaders, the business community, politicians and lecturers.
According to him, his government is trying its best to ensure that the youths are engaged through the various programmes he has initiated.
Yusuf said: “When we came into office, we tried our very best to take away the hundreds of youths out of the streets through numerous programs. “What went wrong? Why are we in this pathetic situation? “
He added: “In those days, when traditional leaders are passing people from afar removed their shoes in respect for the institution. “But today these same leaders are being attacked on social media by disgruntled elements and they go scot-free. “Ullamas have become the subject of insults and all sorts of attacks when they preach. What went wrong?”
