The Kano state Public Complaints and AntiCorruption Commission (PCACC) has rejected the calls for the scrapping of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).
Chairman Muhyi Magaji made the declaration at an event marking International Ombuds Day 2024 organized by the Commission in Kano. Magaji said the calls for the scrapping of EFCC is “unpatriotic and is with some myopic means”.
He said: “We don’t support the idea of the calls for the scrapping of the EFCC, the more anti-graft agencies, the more the fight against corruption will be better for the country, and some private issues yes can be handled by the sub-states anti-graft offices, like ours.”
Magaji said Nigeria needs to move forward in terms of service delivery and the war on corruption, adding: “If there is anything the nation needs urgently is not the calls for the scrapping of any antigraft office.”
According to him, they registered 1,359 cases with about 60 per cent being duly prosecuted and 30 per cent hanging, expressing the confidence to do more pro bono with the use of Am buds.
