New Telegraph had earlier reported that President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday called on the Senate to confirm Justice Kekere-Ekun as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
The President’s letter was read during the plenary session by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
In the letter, Tinubu cited Section 231(1) of the Nigerian Constitution, which empowers him to appoint the CJN based on recommendations from the National Judicial Council, pending Senate approval.
Kekere-Ekun has been serving as the Acting CJN since August, following the retirement of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.
