Adamawa State government have been lauded by the civil servants in the state after receiving their first payments under the new N70,000 minimum wage, signed into law by President Bola Tinubu.
It was an atmosphere of jubilation among workers as Adamawa State became the first Northern state to implement the new national minimum wage.
Sunday Telegraph reports that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri began implementing the increased wage in August 2024, despite concerns from other governors about its economic feasibility.

The decision has sparked widespread jubilation among civil servants in the state, with Local Government workers also set to benefit from the new minimum wage starting in September 2024.
Multiple sources, including state workers, confirmed the updated payments marking a significant milestone for labor rights in the region.
It would be recalled that President Tinubu signed the minimum wage bill into law, ending months of deliberations between government authorities, labour unions, and the private sector in July.
The bill was signed in the State House in Abuja days after the National Assembly had passed the Minimum Wage Act, 2019 to increase the National Minimum Wage from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000.
