Israel: Strike On Beirut Killed Senior Hezbollah Commander

Israel’s military said it killed Hezbollah commander Ibrahim Muhammad al-Qubasi in an air strike on Lebanon’s capital, Beirut. Lebanon’s health ministry says six people were killed and 15 injured in the strike.

More than 550 people, including 50 children, have been killed in Israeli strikes since Monday, the ministry said.

Thousands are fleeing southern Lebanon, with families crammed into cars and closed schools being used as makeshift shelters, reports the BBC.

Monday was the deadliest day in Lebanon since the end of the civil war in 1990. Israel said it aims to remove the threat from Hezbollah and return displaced residents to northern Israel; Hezbollah says it is resisting Israeli “aggression” and acting in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.

As world leaders meet in New York, US President Joe Biden told the UN General Assembly a full-scale war is “not in anyone’s interest”.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets towards northern Israel this morning – most were intercepted but there has been some damage to buildings, the IDF said.

Attacks on both sides of the Lebanon-Israel border have increased since the October 7 attacks – Hezbollah said it’s fighting on behalf of Gaza-based Hamas.
