The Abia State chapter of the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), has described the government of Dr Alex Otti as satisfactory in all indices of governance.
Appraising Governor Otti’s administration after a meeting with the Special Adviser on Political Affairs, Hon Iheanacho Obioma, the State Chairman of IPAC Mr. Nelson Uluocha, said Otti’s government has been impressive so far when viewed against the background of PDP’s 24 years.
“Today in Abia, civil servants no longer cry about non-payment of salary or the dichotomy of care and non-core civil servants.
“We all use the roads he has rehabilitated. We see the hospitals, in fact in every area, he has been impressive,” the IPAC chairman said.
He said the meeting with the governor’s political aide was to discuss the way forward and improve the relationship between it and the government.
Uluocha however, said they expect more from the governor, especially in the area of appointment of their members in his cabinet in an inclusive government.
In his remark, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Affairs, Hon. Obioma disclosed that IPAC has a cordial relationship and not at loggerheads with the state government.
He noted that a statutory body of political parties IPAC was only interested in the provision of good governance for Abia people, adding that although the body expressed reservations on some issues, the relationship between it and the government remained cordial.
According to him, the essence of the meeting was to consult with a view to strengthening the relationship between the two and stressed the need for regular dialogue with the group.
Honourable Obioma described IPAC as equal players and assured them that they would be carried along by the government.
“We had scheduled a meeting with members of IPAC to deliberate on the working relationship between IPAC, the government and actually the entire Abians. The meeting went well, and IPAC has expressed its own issues concerning its relationship, with the government, their expectations and of course their reservations.
“The essence of this meeting is to see how we can all embrace ourselves and support what the government is doing. The takeaway from this meeting is for all to acknowledge that IPAC is not at any loggerheads with the government; and that there is a need for constant dialogue between the government and political parties, making sure that the government sees the political parties as equal players not as opposition,” Obioma stated.
