Investigate Killings Of Protesters, Amnesty Int’l Tells Kano Gov

Amnesty International yesterday urged the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to establish an independent judicial commission of inquiry to investigate the fatal shooting of at least 10 protesters in Kurna and Kofar Nassarawa during the #EndBadGovernance protests.

The organisation calls for a thorough investigation into the conduct of security agencies and alleged involvement of hired thugs who disrupted the protests and caused destruction.

Amnesty International emphasised the need for a public and well-resourced inquiry to ensure a comprehensive investigation.

The organisation warned that failure to investigate the killings and incidents would perpetuate the culture of impunity in Nigeria and undermine the rule of law.

The organisation also stresses the importance of protecting victims, their families and potential witnesses from harassment, threats and reprisals to ensure they can testify freely before the panel.
