
A terrorist suspected to be the leader of a Boko Haram sect has been killed following a gun duel between them and the Nigeria Military in Tegina, Rafi local government area of Niger state.
New Telegraph gathered that the two military personnel who were reportedly shot during the duel are currently recuperating at the hospital.
The incident which occurred in the early hours of Monday close to the military base in Tegina had the terrorists allegedly crossing towards Mashegu and Wushishi local government areas of the state to rustle a targeted herd of cattle in those areas.
Confirming the incident via telephone interview with the Chairman of Rafi local government area, Alhaji Ayuba Usman Katako revealed that the military, police and vigilantes are trying their best to ensure peace and security of lives and properties in the state and deserve to be commended.
According to him, “One of the terrorists suspected to be their leader was neutralized and killed and I thank the Almighty Allah, the two soldiers shot are responding to treatment at the IBB Specialized Hospital Minna.
While decrying the incessant attacks on security personnel, Katako called for patience, support and prayers to overcome the menace of insecurity bedevilling the state and Nigeria at large.
An impeccable source and one of the villagers who simply gave his name as Ibrahim said, “We are happy that the Army rose up to the occasion and killed the terrorist. We know him (the murdered terrorist), he is their leader.
“These terrorists are bent on their mission to make life unbearable for us all, and I thank Almighty Allah that our soldiers only sustained injuries.”
As of the time of filing this report, the military cantonment in Minna could not be reached.
