Insecurity: Technology, Vital Tool In Fight Against Banditry –Army Chief

The Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division of the Nigeria Army in Sokoto, Brig.- General Ibikunle Ajose, has identified technology as a vital tool in the fight against banditry and other criminal activities.

Brig.-General Ajose stated this while declaring open a four-day workshop tagged; “Operation Planning Cadre,” held at the main auditorium of the Division yesterday.

The workshop with the theme; “Leveraging New Technologies for Innovative Operations Planning Proccess by Commanders in a Joint Environment,” which he described as apt, considering the dynamic nature of modern warfare and the increasing technology in shaping military operations.

In his remarks, the GOC said: “As we gather here today, it is imperative to remember that the security environment is evolving rapidly. “The challenges we face today are multidimensional, complex and often transnational.

Whether it is countering insurgency, tackling terrorism or banditry, or maintaining internal security, the need for innovation and adaptability in our operations planning process cannot be overemphasised.

“This is in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s com – mand philosophy which is to transform the Nigerian Army into a well-trained, equipped and highly motivated force towards achieving our constitutional responsibilities within a joint environment.

The GOC expressed optimism that this cadre will, among other benefits, afford the carefully selected resource persons and the participants, the opportunity to deliberate and make meaningful contributions and come up with workable plans that will assist in addressing most operational and administrative challenges that are inimical to Nigerian Army’s operational engagements in various theatres.
