As Nigeria marks its 64th Independence Day, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has directed the implementation of robust security measures nationwide to ensure a safe and peaceful celebration.
In a press release issued on Monday, Egbetokun ordered the deployment of substantial human and tactical resources across key event venues and major highways.
These measures are aimed at preventing any potential threats to lives and properties during the festivities, adding that the police is working closely with other security agencies, and will be stationed at strategic points to ensure water-tight security throughout the celebration period.

The IGP emphasized that while officers are expected to be vigilant, they must remain courteous and professional in their interactions with the public.
In his Independence Day message, Egbetokun congratulated Nigerians on the anniversary, urging them to reflect on the nation’s journey, the sacrifices of the founding fathers, and the challenges overcome.
He also reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to maintaining peace, security, and the rule of law, while fostering unity and progress.
The IGP called on Nigerians to embrace their national responsibilities by promoting peace and respecting the law, as the country continues to work towards a more prosperous future for all citizens.
The police leadership has also issued a warning to clamp down on any miscreants who attempt to disrupt the celebrations, ensuring a peaceful and secure environment across the country.
