Independence Day: RCCG Calls For Special Prayers For Nigeria

Ahead of the 64th Independence Day celebration on Tuesday, October 1, the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has said Nigeria needs special prayers, expressing confidence that with divine wisdom the seemingly hopeless situation in the country can be defeated.

The church which called on Nigerians to work hand in hand, to build a brighter future for all, said as preparations are ongoing, a reaffirmation of commitment to national unity and cohesion was important, alongside the conscious recognition that diversity is the nation’s strength and the differences are what make the people unique.

Speaking at a briefing on behalf of the General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye; Special Assistant to the General Overseer on Administration who doubles as the Pastor-in-charge of Region 1, Pastor Oladele Balogun noted that the church would host a Special Independence Day Prayers and Celebration Service on October 6 at the National Headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos.

Balogun, said there will be corporate thanksgiving to God for His faithfulness and love upon the nation. Also, prayers for all government functionaries, and students particularly those in the higher institutions would be led by the General Overseer.

He also hinted that buses shall be positioned at the following major bus stops including Yaba University of Technology, Ikeja, Iyana Oworonsoki, Oshodi, Orile and Ojuelegba to bring students for the special prayers and Independence Day Celebration Service.

He stated: “As part of the preparation to commemorate a momentous occasion in our nation’s history – our Independence Day, we need to thank God for His faithfulness and love for our Nation, Nigeria.

“Though our tongues and tribes may differ, in brotherhood we must continue to stand. Hence the need to celebrate the bravery, resilience, and determination of our forebears who fought tirelessly for our freedom…

“The challenges imposed on us as a Nation, by the declining global economy and pervasive insecurity, inform the need for fervent corporate prayers by all well-meaning citizens and residents in Nigeria. No matter how innovative a recovery plan may be, be it locally conceived or globally prescribed, only God, the Almighty, can bring about a transformational turnaround.

“The state of the Nation as well as the prevailing global economy is quite challenging but with God all things are possible, hence, our confidence that through divine wisdom, God is able to turn around the seemingly hopeless situation into a glorious phenomenon.”

Adding: “Through corporate prayer, we will recommit ourselves to the values of freedom, justice, and equality that our nation was founded upon. We trust God to ignite the change we wish to see in our world, beginning from our Nation. God will set us on the path towards a brighter future, where every citizen can live with dignity, purpose, and hope.

“As stakeholders in Nigeria, it is our collective duty to mobilise as many persons as possible to be a part of this destiny realignment effort. We trust God to miraculously launch Nigeria unto the path of irreversible progressive glory.”
