Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe, the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Health, has promised members of Kolokuma Opokuma Elders Assembly that he will not betray the trust bestowed on him by Governor Douye Diri who appointed him as the state’s commissioner.
This was as he also assured the group that he will keep the flag of the Local Government flying higher bearing in mind that the LG has contributed a lot to the development of the state in all ramifications.
Speaking at the weekend in Yenagoa when group comprising the elders in their fifties and above paid him a courtesy visit, the commissioner who thanked the governor for the privilege given to him to serve, maintained that he was honoured to be visited by members of the body.
He further stated that he will never take the visit and all the advice given to him by the group for granted.
Disclosing that he is the eleventh Health Commissioner to serve the state of whom, six of them are from Kolokuma Opokuma local government with him being the sixth, Brisibe promised to keep the good legacies of his predecessors from the local government.
He thanked the group for finding him worthy to be visited adding that “all the men and women in the group are not only fathers and mothers of AKOLGA but also that of the state.”
He said: “Out of the eleven Health Commissioners in the state, six are from kolokuma Opokuma Local Government Area. I’m inspired by the records of my predecessors from KOLGA.”
“KOLGA without being boastful is one of the foremost local governments in terms of historical heritage, academics and business, modesty and core values. KOLGA will be adjudged to be one of the foremost, if not the foremost local government in Bayelsa State.”
“All of you here seated are leaders, community developers and forthright successful recognized individuals in your chosen careers.
“Today you people have inspired me in a different dimension. I can never be this more honoured,” he said.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of Kolokuma Opokuma Elders Assembly, Dr. Isaac Kumokou who spoke on-behalf of the group, had thanked Governor Douye Diri for appointing their son as Commissioner for Health.
He explained that his members were actually overwhelmed by the position given to him by the governor advising him not to disappoint them.
Kumokuo said:” We came in here to thank the governor for appointing our son as the commissioner for health. We felt we also come and congratulate you in your new office and to urge you to perform as you used to do in other offices.”
“You should be a shining example of what a Kolokuma Opokuma man can do once given an opportunity to serve in the state.
“We are excited to be here not because you are a commissioner or a professor but because you were born into the Kolokuma Opokuma family.”
“We have come to appreciate you and to thank the governor for finding you worthy to be a commissioner. We are here to congratulate you and wish you well and we know, that you will definitely perform and make us proud.”
Gesiye Isowo, Bayelsa State Secretary of People’s Democratic Party, also revealed that the assembly was always at the background to advise those in the political front.
He said: “We thank the governor for this honour given to our brother and for also making him a co- chairman of national emergency medical services committee at the national level.”
“This is the first time a PDP government at the state level will give somebody an appointment and APC government at the national level will also give the person an appointment and we give God all the glory.
