Ikeja Court Remands Couple Over Sexual Assault

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, sitting in Lagos State on Friday remanded a couple in a correctional facility after they sexually assaulted their 18-year-old niece.

Magistrate E. Kubeinje remanded James Uwanah, 31, and Michelle Uwanah, 26, to Kikiri Correctional Centre until June 25, when they will stand trial.

New Telegraph gathered that the couple faces charges of conspiracy and sexual assault.

The prosecution counsel, Insp John Iberedem, informed the court that the accused allegedly committed the act on May 5 and 6 at No 42, Oje Olorunfemi St. Igando, Lagos.

Iberedem claimed that the couple sexually molested the 18-year-old niece of the man who lived with them.

The prosecution claimed that the offence violated Sections 261, 263(1), and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Laws, 2015.

Sexual assault carries a three-year prison sentence, whereas sexual assault by penetration is punishable by life imprisonment if convicted.
