Herder-Farmer Clashes: Emir Sanusi Seeks FG’s Nod To Intervene

A young herdsboy leads animals to feed in the bush in Lafia capital of Nasarawa State, northcentral Nigeria on January 4, 2018. Nomadic cattle herders have all but left Benue state, driven away by fighting over access to resources and a new law banning migratory herding, an age-old practice necessary for the survival of the livestock. More than 100 people have been killed since early January, with 100,000 fleeing their homes to safety, according to the local emergency management agency (SEMA). The Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi 11 has expressed his readiness to intervene in the incessant clashes between Fulani herdsmen and farmers crisis.

However, the ex-Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor said the support of the Federal Government. The monarch said these when he received the leadership of Tapital Pulaku Njode Jam Nigeria in his palace yesterday.

He said: “But this can be done only if the Federal Government will give me full support to achieve my mission because they have the might and what it takes to make my strategy work, while I will provide the ideas and the methodologies of how to go about it. “It is high time a permanent solution is provided to the Fulani crisis in the country”.

“No doubt, Fulani in Nigeria have suffered heavy attacks, isolation, killings, destruction and the rustling of their cows, these rejections indeed were carried all across the country and something needs to be done to arrest the situation.

However, is not untrue that some bad eggs among Fulani have thrown the good names of the people into the trash and subjected them to what they are suffering today
