…says President doing all to bring succour
…hints Tinubu working on stipends for unemployed graduates
The Federal Government has said there was no need for the youth to embark on the planned nationwide protests scheduled for August 1-10th against the prevailing hardship in the country.
Briefing State House Correspondents after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday said the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris hinted that the government was working on another programme to pay unemployed graduates monthly allowances until they get jobs.
The Minister, who gave this assurance that the President was listening to the complaints of the youth population and responding appropriately to their grievances, noted that the government was already implementing programmes aimed at providing succour for the masses.
Apart from the issues affecting government-owned media, which he said he discussed with the President, Idris said “We also discussed the issue of the country generally and Mr President has asked me to again inform Nigerians that he listens to them, especially the young people that are trying to protest; he listens to them he takes what they say seriously and he is working assiduously to ensure that this country is good not just for today but also for the future.
“The issue of the planned protest, Mr President does not see any need for that he asked them to shelve that plan and he has asked them to await the government’s response to all their pleas
“A lot is happening only today the NASS has expeditiously passed the bill on National Minimum Wage; you can see how the President is working. It was transmitted only yesterday, today it has been passed.
“A lot of other interventions that the President has also put in place are also going to be looked at expeditiously in the interest of Nigerians. So there is no need for strike; the young people out there should listen to the President and allow the President more time to see to the realization of all the goodies he has for them.”
Listed as the highlight of policies put in place by Tinubu’s administration was the approval given for the release of rice and grains to the state governments for distribution to the poor, assuring that the government would ensure that they get to them.
He equally mentioned the recently approved Student Loans to indigents in order to ensure that no one would have to drop out of school on account of inability to pay fees
On Tinubu’s plan to pay unemployed youth, he said “There is also the intervention the President is making for young men and women who have finished school and who are yet to get employed of post-NYSC for example.
“There is a scheme the government is perfecting now and that will be pushed very fast so that all those young men and women who have finished school, graduates of universities and polytechnics that are not able to get jobs, will continue to be supported by the govt until such a time that those jobs are offered to them.
The whole idea is that no one is left behind. It is an all-inclusive government and the President is determined to ensure that no one is left behind in this attempt to march Nigeria towards progress.”
