A Foundation of people living with disabilities, The Kehinde Oshilaja Foundation, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the 36 state governors, to, as a matter of urgency, take actions that will make life easier for citizens, particularly the physically challenged in the society.
The Founder and Coordinator of the group, Mr Kehinde Oshilaja, a visually impaired, lamented high costs of food items and other necessities and pleaded with political office holders to consider people living with disabilities as priorities in efforts to alleviate the economic suffering in the land.
He also added that the situation has become unbearable to his members across the nation.
In a release signed and made available to journalists in Lagos on Thursday, Comrade Oshilaja decried the soaring cost of living, stagnant wages and limited access to affordable healthcare, which he explained have contributed in no small way to hardships informed by government policies.
“According to him the current situation of this country, particularly the economy of this country is not friendly at all, many families and individuals can no longer make ends meet, thus making life unbearable and affecting their well-being and quality of life.
While averring that the President is surrounded by capable hands that can turn things around, he said the situation is, basically, worsened by increase in pump prices of petrol and rate of foreign exchange.
“The cost of living, stagnant wages and limited access to affordable healthcare has also contributed in no small way to already existing hardship prevalent in the land”, Oshilaja said.
He, however, advised the President to live up to expectations and reciprocate the confidence reposed in him by well-meaning Nigerians who trusted and voted him as president.
“You agree with me that physically challenged people are some of the most vulnerable. Yet, like others affected by this economic situation, we look up to the government for relief.
“On behalf of people living with disabilities, we call on the President, 36 state governors and the FCT Minister, to add the physically challenged to their list of priorities”. Oshilaja pleaded.
