Two traditional rulers in Imo State were Sunday morning abducted by unknown assailants. The assailants also razed their palaces and vehicles during the attacks.
The affected monarchs are Acho Ndukwe of Amagu Ihube and Paul Ogbu of Ihitte Ihube, both in the Okigwe Council Area of the state. Our correspondent also gathered that a youth leader in Umulolo Okigwe was also abducted. Dependable local sources said that the attack on the community happened between 12:30am and 1:30am.
A community source said: “They came in Hilux vehicles and abducted two traditional rulers and burnt their palaces and vehicles. They also abducted the youth leader of Umuololo, Okigwe. They also invaded and vandalised the house of one of our prominent sons, Fabian Nwosu.”
The source continued: “Eze Ndukwe is an influential monarch. He is the chairman of Council of Traditional rulers in Okigwe Council Area. He is also the chairman and CEO of Genesis Hotel, Okigwe. We do not understand the rationale behind this attack.”
The spokesperson for the police in the state, Michael Abattam, who confirmed the attack, said that the command had commenced investigation into the incident.
It will be recalled that a traditional ruler of Atta community in the Njaba Council Area of the state, Edwin Azike, was abducted last Thursday. His lifeless body was found on Friday, dumped at the market square.
