Controversial Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has revealed that bandits in Nigeria can be traced and engaged, much like locating people through their relatives.
Gumi who spoke in an interview with Punch emphasized that bandits are Nigerians and suggested that negotiation could be a viable solution for addressing their criminal activities.
Gumi highlighted that when approached as negotiators or preachers, bandits are often open to dialogue.

He believes this engagement could lead to meaningful conversations, potentially convincing them to abandon their actions.
He said, “These people are Nigerians; we can trace them through their relatives easily. When one approaches them as a negotiator or a preacher, they open their hearts.”
Gumi criticized the lack of government action in pursuing such a strategy, stating that the current government may be learning from past mistakes but that too much “talking” without results remains an issue.
He concluded by expressing confidence in the approach, noting that standing on the “right side” would bring positive outcomes.
