Group Deplores Renewed Escalation In Gay Relationships

Not giving up in its desire to ensure a society completely free of indecent association, a civil society group, Inspiring Future Generation, has deplored recent escalation in gay relationship among youth and sone adults.

The group, in a statement said inspite of the several regulations and advocacy towards exterminating the negative acts of gay and lesbianism in the country, the trend continued to escalate, thereby exposing the youngsters to danger.

This was the outcome of a workshop held in Benin City to examine the remote and immediate causes of the inability of the government to eradicate the criminal acts that have permeated the country and which remains uncontrollable.

According to findings, peer group influence is a major cause of these criminalities as one Susan Ebiehiereme Egbogun arrested on September 1, 2023 at Okirighwre in Sapele Delta State after a street squabble with a female lesbian friend revealed.

The Convener of the group, Olu Amuda, said details revealed that after her arrest by the Police, it was discovered that they were having a gay and lesbian party with over 60 people in attendance at a lounge, leading to the further arrest of 20 of the offenders.

“Another case within the same neighbourhood involved Nkem Pamela Osayande arrested on December 24 , 2022, during a street brawl with her female lesbian partner as a result of a misunderstanding.

“Her parents, who visited her while she was in Police custody, were shocked, devastated, and heartbroken, and she was later released on bail pending further actions.

“The case of Mijife Darlington Edafe Otiteh, who is legally married is another pathetic one as he was also into a gay relationship with another male colleague in his estate.

“After his arrest on August 27, 2021, at somewhere in Alimosho area of Lagos State, Darlington confessed that his gay partner suddenly got infuriated and jealous on seeing him with someone else.

“Unless the government takes drastic steps to get culprits properly prosecuted and jailed, if found guilty, the disturbing acts will not only increase but continue to multiple to uncontrollable negative dimensions.”
