The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reacted to reports of the national grid collapsed on Saturday.
Speaking on the constant collapse of the national grid, the TCN labelled the incident as a ‘Temporary grid disturbance.’
Saturday Telegraph had earlier reported that this marks the third collapse of the grid in a single week, causing widespread power outages across multiple states.
This latest collapse also represents the eighth grid disturbance in 2024.
However, Data from the Nigerian System Operator’s portal (niggrid.org) indicated that the grid recorded zero Megawatts (MW) at 8:16 am today, with all 22 generation companies (GenCos) offline.

TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, in a statement made available to newsmen explained that the collapse was triggered by the explosion of a bus section of a current transformer at the 330kV Jebba Transmission Substation.
“The protection system was activated, isolating the busbars to prevent further damage, and engineers have successfully restored power by reconfiguring the busbar arrangement,” Mbah confirmed.
It would be recalled that Saturday’s Grid Collapse made it the third recorded in less than one week.
However, the TCN has assured that power has been restored to the station and other affected parts of the grid.
