Govt Needs To Address High Cost Of Governance Amid Protests–NACCIMA

The Director-General of Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Mr. Sola Obadimu, has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu’s administration needs to address the high cost of governance issue in the country’s economy currently. Obadimu in an interview with New Telegraph, stated that the government was not paying more attention to the high cost of governance issue in the country and it is one of the key reasons for the current agitation, fueling the #endbadgovernance protests nationwide.

Obadimu said: “Confidence in government needs to be restored. And a good way to possibly kick-start the process of regaining the lost confidence would have been to address the high cost of governance issue which was unfortunately avoided. “It’s quite difficult for followership currently going through a challenging period (businesses and individuals alike) to continue to do so without a corresponding gesture by government to attempt to bring down cost of governance.

“Without faith in government and its actions, words may not mean much. There’s a great need for fiscal discipline and a greater commitment to channeling resources into developmental and infrastructure projects with an equal commitment to get value for money.” In addition, the NACCIMA DG pointed out, “Economic indices need to stabilize fairly quickly. Rising inflation, interest & forex rates are bad for any economy. “They jointly create an unfavourable environment for doing business.”
