Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule on Thursday bade farewell to the outgoing 13 Local Government Council Chairmen in the state ahead of the November 2 Local Government Elections in the State.
The current Local Government Council Chairmen councilllors were elected on October 6, 2021 and sown-in on October 8.
Speaking during the meeting held on Thursday at the Government House, Lafia, Governor Sule, appreciated the council Chairmen for their various contributions and achievements in their respective Local Government Areas in the past three years.
New Telegraph reports that the farewell meeting by governor Sule with the outgoing council chairmen coming barely 47 hours when the Nasarawa State Independence Electoral Commission (NASIEC), Chairman, Barrister Ayuba Wandai Usman announced November 2 for fressh conduct of local Government elections during a press briefing in Lafia.
He said that the tenure of the current Chairmen and Councillors who were elected on October 6,2021 and were Sworn – in – on October 8,2024 for a period of three years would expire on Monday November 7,2024.
Usman disclosed that the commission had issued notice of Election and timetabel for the election in 31 August, 2023, but had to postponed the election due to an originating summons it received from the Federal High Court Lafia, filed by one Paul John Esg and 12 others, saying the legal action compelled the commission to postponed the scheduled polls.
He discloed that the appellatants suddenly withrewed their case on 26 September thereby paying the way for the conduct of the election.
The NAIEC boss disclosed that Party primaries including resolutions of disputes arising from the primaries would hold between Friday October 11 to Thursday October 17, 2024.
Usan announced that Campaign by Aspirants for Chairmanship and Councillorship as well as publication of final list of nominated candidates would take place between Friday October 18, 2024 and Tuesday October 29,2024.
While calling on the people of the State to support the Commission in the discharge of her Statutory mandate, he assured that the commission would contact a free, fair, transparent and credible election
