Fuel Scarcity: Filling Station Owners Demand Overhaul Of Distribution Network

The Association of Mega Filling Station Owners of Nigeria (AMFSON) has called for the overhauling of distribution network of petroleum products in the country as fuel scarcity continues in Kaduna.

The situation is compounded as the few stations having fuel have jerked up the pump price of the commodity to between N 800 to N1,000.

A 4-litre gallon sells for between N 5,000 to N6,000 in the black market. AMFSON said only strategic overhauling of the distribution system would stem the incessant scarcity of petroleum products.

President Davidson Ukatta said the overhaul should as a matter of urgency, including the reduction of dependency on private petroleum farm tanks for the storage of imported products.

Ukatta said the overdependence on private tanks have over the years proved not to be very effective in products distribution across the country.

He regretted that minor natural disasters end up disrupting logistics for product distribution across the country.

He said: “Government should as a matter of urgency look into the need to revive NNPC fuel depot’s across the country.

“Pumping fuel into these abandoned depots will ensure that supplies are replenished within short periods unlike the present situation whereby supplies take longer time as products come all the way from Lagos to other parts of the country.”
