The French Government on Sunday confirmed the deaths of eight people attempting to cross the English Channel from France to the United Kingdom (UK) overnight.
The French officials disclosed that the tragedy occurred after a rubber boat carrying 50 migrants started sinking shortly after departing the French coast near Boulogne-sur-Mer.

French rescue teams were alerted and managed to save many, but eight lives were lost.
This incident follows another recent tragedy in the Channel where 12 migrants died.
So far, 45 people have died in the Channel this year amid increasing crossing attempts.
