Four teams test run MKO Stadium for Presidential Cup

The Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja is set to host a four-team Presidential Cup football competition this weekend, it has been revealed. Special Adviser to the President Muhammadu Buhari on sports, Daniel Amokachi, on Wednesday stated that the competition would serve as a test run for the sports facility which was handed over to the ministry only last week after the rehabilitation work by the Dangote Group. Leading the pack of teams taking part is Champions of the Nigeria Professional Football League last season, Akwa United. Others are Lobi Stars of Makurdi, Sunshine Stars of Akure and Pillars of Kano. Amokachi revealed during a radio programme on Wednesday that all necessary steps have been taken for the competition to go ahead weekend. “We have the nod of the league body, the NFF, the management of the four teams and so we are good to go,” he said. The Ministry of Youth and Sports is eager to stage the tournament to prepare grounds for other bigger games in future.
