Flood: Presidency, NASS Devising Strategies To Bring Succour To Victims – Abbas

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abass has said that the Presidency and the National Assembly are working together to deliver succour to victims of flooding across the country.

Abbas made this disclosure yesterday while responding to questions after meeting with the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, at the Presidential Villa.

Asked why he came to see the Vice President, Abbas said “I am here today to commiserate with His Excellency, the Vice President, over the devastating flooding incidents in Maiduguri.

“That is the purpose of my visit here, and I used that opportunity to discuss extensively the problems and the situation of the people, particularly those affected in Maiduguri.

“We have also designed some strategies and solutions that both the NASS and the Presidency will implement in the next few days to bring succour to the victims of the flood in Maiduguri.”

On what measure he felt should be put in place to ensure that the N3 billion government intervention for victims of the Maiduguri flooding would get to the people, he said

“With the governor, that is known for transparency. the governor of Borno (Babagana Zulum),  I am absolutely sure that whatever will be provided for them by the Presidency will be judiciously distributed. So, I have no fear about that.”

On what the National Assembly was planning to address the challenge of flooding, Abbas said

“Yes! Certainly. My own state, Kaduna, had a similar flood incident, a few weeks ago and we have taken measures to address that by giving palliatives we have also reached out to NEMA,  and advised them to assist the victims there.

We are making efforts with the Governor of Niger state to see what we can do by the NASS to help, and also, all the other states that are affected, we will do what we can to help.”
