The Delta State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the lives and well-being of residents in flood-prone areas.
This reassurance comes as rising water levels continue to threaten communities across the state.
In response to the potential displacement of thousands of people in the state, the state government has set up Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in key locations as a form of aid to victims.
Also, the government urged those in flood-prone zones to relocate to higher grounds immediately.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Festus Ahon gave the assurance on Saturday during a flood update in Asaba, Delta State.

He reiterated that the state government, under Governor Oborevwori’s leadership, would not neglect its responsibility to protect and care for those affected by the floods.
“As soon as we received warnings about the impending flood, our proactive Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, immediately established a high-powered Flood Management Committee,” Ahon said.
The committee, chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, was tasked with preparing for the impact of the flood.
In addition, the committee is to ensure that all necessary arrangements were made for the safety of the affected residents.
The committee has been actively working with the Delta State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to raise awareness among residents in coastal communities about the imminent danger.
They have been urging those in flood-prone areas to move to the nearest IDP camps for safety.
Camps have been set up in Asaba, Kwale, Patani, Ozoro, and Otu-Jeremi to house the displaced residents.
According to Ahon, the government has made provisions for mattresses, feeding, electricity, clean water, and medical supplies in the camps.
Additionally, arrangements have been made for schoolchildren to continue their education while staying at the camps.
The Delta State Government remains committed to ensuring the safety of all residents.
“As a responsible government, Governor Oborevwori’s administration is working tirelessly to guarantee that no lives are lost due to this natural disaster,” Ahon emphasized.
He also assured that the flood management team is closely monitoring the situation and is ready to provide more assistance as needed.
The government is also prepared to expand its efforts, should the need arise, to ensure that all displaced persons are adequately cared for during this difficult time.
