Finidi Blames NFF For Tenure Failure As Eagles Coach

Former Super Eagles head coach, Finidi George has blamed fitness issues and a lack of adequate preparation as the reasons behind the failure of his brief tenure.

The Nigerian football legend, who took over from Portuguese coach José Peseiro, lasted just 47 days in charge, overseeing a crucial 2026 World Cup qualifying defeat to Benin Republic and a goalless draw with South Africa.

In an interview with SportsBoom , Finidi explained that his efforts to adequately prepare the team for the World Cup qualifiers were hindered by poor planning and decisionmaking from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

He disclosed that his proposal to start the national team camp earlier, considering that players would be coming off their club seasons, was initially approved by the NFF but was later reversed.
