Finally, Sanwo-Olu Flags Off Commercial Operations On Red Line

…says project is promise kept

Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu yesterday flagged off commercial operations of the state’s second Mass Transit Train System, known as Red Line.

The governor performed the groundbreaking ceremony of the Red Line Rail at the Oyingbo train station. The 27-kilometre Redline, which runs from Agbado, a border town with neighbouring Ogun State to Oyingbo on the Mainland, forms part of the state’s multi-modal transport system of its robust Transport Master Plan.

The project handled by the Lagos State Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), is in line with Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Olu’s Agenda. Speaking at the inauguration, the governor described Tuesday’s event as “symbolic”, stressing that it will reduce travel time and bring relief to residents and visitors to the state.

After the tape cutting ritual, Sanwo-Olu, in company of other top dignitaries including members of the State Executive, Legislature and Judiciary, took a train trip from Oyingbo to Agege, expressed delight at the groundbreaking development, while also lauding the leadership of LAMATA, under Engr Abímbólá Akinajo for their dedication and commitment in seeing that the Redline dream became reality.

The scheduled trip took off from the Oyingbo Station (Ebute Metta), where Mr Governor used his Cowry Card to board the train. The next stop was Yaba, then Mushin to Oshodi to Ikeja where he alighted and answered some questions from the press.

As the train traversed it’s seven bus stations at Yaba, Mushin, Oshodi, Ikeja, Agege, Iju and Agbado, Mr SanwoOlu, cladded in train ticketers uniform, took time to address passengers on board, which included corporate executives, Nollywood Actors and Actresses journalists and other stakeholders.

The governor said this Legacy Project was a Promise made and Promise kept, promising that more coaches would be added for both the Blue and Red rail lines next year.

Speaking further, SauwoOlu moving round the coaches with state government officials restated his administration’s commitment to make life easier in line with the THEMES Plus Agenda.

He also said the red rail line would further create employment opportunities for residents of the state. Also speaking at the event, LAMATA MD, Engr. Akinajo thanked the governor for his support and commitment to all round development of the state.

She also expressed appreciation to other stakeholders including members of LAMATA management and staff and the state house of Assembly for their cooperation.
