FG To Begin Review Education Institutions’ Curricula

The Minister of Education for State, Dr Yusuf Sununu, has said in order to move in tune with current reality, the federal government would commence the review of curriculum in all the levels of education in the country, to allow Nigerians access an education that provides them with an opportunity to be globally competitive.

This came as the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), commenced the review for 14 trade syllables used in Technical colleges.

Sununu who spoke at a workshop on the review of Syllabus of Technical Colleges organised by NABTEB yesterday in Abuja, decried that in the last 14 years, the curriculum and syllabus of institutions including secondary and basic education have not been reviewed.

He said: “I think 14 years is enough to call a child an adolescent. For us to remain in prolong period without review of curriculum and syllabus spell doom for the nation.”

While noting that it was part of the mandate of the Federal Ministry of Education to ensure all the curriculum and syllabus were reviewed, the minister revealed that in the next few days, the National Education Research Development Council (NERDC) would also commence the review of the curriculum of all the basic education to move in tune with reality.

“You will agree with me that the time for teaching students A is for Apple, B is for Ball is almost outdated but must be in our archive for this nation to develop.”
