The Federal Government, through its Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi), is today providing free conversion of vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) between 3pm and 6pm in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja and Kaduna state.
According to a statement yesterday, the first 50 cars inspected at the designated CNG conversion centres in these cities will be eligible to receive free CNG kits, provided they pass the conversion process.
The exercise was also carried out yesterday in Lagos as some residents were offered free conversion of their vehicles to CNG between 3pm and 6pm. The free exercise which is part of Operation First Come, First Serve took place at six designated locations.
The announcement was made by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, via his official X (formerly Twitter).
According to the plan, the first 50 vehicles that passed inspection at each of the six locations were fitted with free CNG conversion kits, allowing owners to refuel at N230 per SCM of CNG at any NIPCO station.
The exercise, it was learnt, also took place in Abeokuta in Ogun State and Ibadan,Oyo State. Sources said the initiative is part of the government’s plan to promote cleaner energy, alleviate the financial strain caused by rising fuel prices, and support the transition to more eco-friendly transportation nationwide.
