Federal Capital Territory Administration ( FCTA) on Wednesday flagged off the distribution of 30 trucks of fertilizers said to be about 900 metric tonnes donated by the Central Bank of Nigeria ( CBN).
The intervention from the Central Bank of Nigeria ( CBN) was said to be part of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda’s strategies to fight inflation and food insecurity.
FCT’s Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud who flagged off the ceremonial distribution to farmers, noted that President Tinubu was responding to the Citizen’s quest for improved livelihood in the country.
She noted that modalities have been worked out to ensure that only real-time farmers within the Territory benefit from the fertilizers’ intervention of the Federal government.
Mahmoud stressed that the FCT Administration had also outlined other programmes, aimed at ensuring that the poorest of the poor in Abuja get the desired succour.
According to her, “As you may recall, within the past two months, we have undertaken several initiatives to enhance food production. In collaboration with the World Bank and Islamic Development Bank, we achieved a significant milestone by providing farmers with a comprehensive range of agricultural inputs.
“Building on this success, we also successfully distributed the palliatives approved by Mr President, bringing much-needed relief and succour to the residents of the FCT,” she stressed.
She said, “ however, assured that the Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat has fully adhered to the distribution guidelines outlined by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) which includes the setting up of a broad-based Ad-hoc committee to strategize and come up with distribution plans that would ensure the fertilizers reach the intended beneficiaries.
