FCT Police Burst Car Theft Hideout In Lagos

The operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command on Monday stormed a criminal syndicate that specialises in stealing vehicles in Abuja and its environs to sell in Lagos.

Benneth Igweh, the FCT Police Commissioner, said that the gang’s luck ran out when an Abuja resident discovered his friend’s stolen automobile at a car stand during a recent vacation to Lagos.

He then notified the victim to travel to Lagos to confirm that the automobile was indeed his.

When the victim arrived in Lagos, he identified the car to be his stolen Toyota Camry and reported it to the FCT Police.


According to CP Igweh, police detectives dispatched to the area revealed that the stolen car’s original chassis had been modified. The vehicle was recovered, and the perpetrators were apprehended.

He said, “On 1st May 2024, at about 3 pm, acting on credible intelligence, police operatives of Apo Legislative Quarters, trailed and arrested two notorious car theft suspects namely, Anthony Chibuzor and his friend Jonas Chikwe both males of Lagos State who have been on the wanted list of the command.

“They are part of a notorious car theft syndicate terrorizing FCT and its environs.

“Three vehicles to which the suspects gave no satisfactory account were recovered including a Toyota Camry with Reg No. Lagos 23, an Audi A4 with Reg No. KRD 349 JD and a Honda Accord Sports with Reg No. BDG 42 JC, some of which the Chassis No. had been altered by the suspects.”
