The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the tragic death of a 19-year-old boy who was allegedly beaten to death by his father in the Alagbado area of Lagos State.
According to state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement yesterday, the incident was reported to the Alagbado Police Division on Tuesday.
Hundeyin said that the father, Olumide, had inflicted a deep cut on his son, Adeyemi’s right hand with a shovel as a form of punishment for an undisclosed offense.
The victim was initially taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, but was later transferred to the General Hospital in Ikeja due to the severity of his injuries.
Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and died from a tetanus infection, as confirmed by the attending doctor.
Hundeyin said, “At about 12 p.m. on July 5, one Olumide gave his son, Adeyemi a deep cut under moderate correction, at his righthand side with a shovel over an undisclosed offense.
“But when the injury became serious, he was taken to the General Hospital, Ikeja, where he gave up the ghost as a result of tetanus infection, as confirmed by the doctor on duty.”
