From Musa Pam, Jos
Former senate minority leader Sen. Dr. Simon Mwadkwon has praised the Plateau state governor Barr. Caleb Mutfwang for his commitment to democracy and local government autonomy.
Sen. Mwadkon while addressing Journalists in Jos on Monday commended Mutfwang for releasing all funds meant for the local governments, even before the autonomy was granted.
Mwadkon, a former senator who represented Plateau northern senatorial district also appreciated Governor Mutfwang for conducting free and fair local government elections, where other political parties won councillor seats. This, he said, demonstrates Mutfwang’s dedication to democracy and power devolution.
He expressed optimism about the PDP’s chances of taking over power at the national level, emphasising that the party is well-positioned to leverage the momentum generated by its success in the local government elections.
“Mutfwang’s leadership style has created a level playing field for all political parties, fostering a sense of competition and democracy. This approach is unlike what is obtained in other states, where the ruling party often dominates the political landscape.
“The success of the local government elections in Plateau state can be attributed to Mutfwang’s commitment to democracy and the rule of law. His leadership has created an environment where political parties can thrive and contribute to the development of the state”; the former senator said.
The lawmakers noted that the PDP’s achievements in Plateau state demonstrate its ability to promote democracy and good governance, which could resonate with voters nationwide.
He added that the local government elections in Plateau state have set a precedent for democracy and good governance in Nigeria.
“Mutfwang’s leadership and the PDP’s success have created a model for other states to follow, promoting democracy and power devolution”; he added.
“I would like to sincerely applaud the people of Plateau State, especially those in my senatorial zone. As a politician, I firmly believe that the recent elections were a resounding victory for the people, with no single individual or group gaining an unfair advantage. It’s a triumph for the people of Plateau State and the Northern Zone. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the people of Plateau State, particularly the Northern Zone, for the peaceful conduct of the elections.
“In my assessment, the elections were free and fair, and the winners were well-deserving. This milestone marks the beginning of effective grassroots leadership. I assure you that we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the well-being and progress of our communities.”
Reacting to the statement made by the chairman of the Plateau State All Progressives Congress APC Hon. Rufus Bature who said the election was rigged, Senator Mwadkwon, said it is the right of any party who wants to go to court and seek justice, to do so, stating that the legal system is part of the election.
He emphasised that the Governor of Plateau State Brr. Caleb Mutfwang has proved himself a democrat by carrying out a free and fair election and clarified that to the best of his knowledge, the election was not rigged.
