The Kano State police command has prosecuted 600 out of the 873 suspects that were arrested for looting and destruction of government and public property during the #EndBadGovernment protests in Kano.
The state Commissioner of Police, Salman Dogo Garba, told newsmen yesterday that the arrested 600 protesters were arrested for offences ranging from criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, riot, theft, mischief and arson.
Among them, he said 150 suspects were prosecuted for violating the curfew enforced by the Kano State government, while additional six suspects linked with masterminding the destruction, setting ablaze buildings and looting of the Kano Printing Press (KPP) are undergoing investigation.
In the same vein, “76 suspects were arrested for fly – ing Russian flags and had been transferred to Force Headquarters, Abuja, for discreet investigation on charges of sedition, while 41 suspects were arrested for other crimes, including armed robbery, kidnapping, car theft and others.
Dogo also said that the police had recovered two AK-47 exhibit rifles and other substantial property that had been looted by hoodlums at Audu Bako Secretariat NCC Office, High Court Complex, Kano Printing Press (KPP), supermarkets and other destroyed facilities.
However, the police commissioner further explained that despite the challenges posed by the recent protests, there was no live lost, adding that; “We are not aware of any life lost during the protests.” He said the command arrested four kidnapping.
