#EndBadGovernance: It’s Important To Protect Journalists, IBAN Tells Security Agencies

The Independent Broadcasting Association of Nigeria (IBAN) has told the security agencies that journalists covering the protest against #BadBadGovernance in Nigeria should be protected.

The Association also said that journalists should be allowed to do their constitutional duties, which included coverage of the #EndbadgovernanceinNigeria.

It would be recalled that the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Musa on Friday said that journalists should not cover the protesters of end bad governance.

According to him, coverage of the protest gives oxygen to the protesters.

But reacting to the protest and my raid of attacks against journalists, IBAN called on the Police and other security agencies to stop the increasing attacks on journalists covering the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests across the country.

In statement issued by the chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Tijjani, IBAN expressed deep concern over the indiscriminate harassment and assaults on Journalists who are performing their constitutional duties.

He called for immediate action to protect journalists and uphold their rights as they cover the nationwide protests.

He emphasised that while maintaining law and order is crucial, protecting journalists and enabling them to inform the public without fear of harm is equally important.

He said, “IBAN Appeals to the heads of Police and security agencies to instruct their operatives to cease further attacks on journalists.”
