Election: Obi Calls For Stronger UK, Nigeria Relationship

Former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Mr Peter Obi, has expressed the hope that the victory of Labour Party (PR) in the United Kingdom’s general election would promote a stronger Nigeria relationship with Britain.

Obi in a congratulatory message to the new UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on his X handle, prayed that the victory may “translate to a better and new chapter for all UK residents as you remain committed to your electoral promises.”

He called on the new UK government to help in deepening Nigeria’s own democracy, “especially during the challenging times that our nation is going through.”

Obi equally drew Starmer’s attention to “issues such as insecurity, education, healthcare, and poverty,” which he said Nigeria is grappling with, and hoped that the country could greatly benefit from the support of the UK.

“Let us work together to build a brighter future for the Commonwealth. I wish you a successful tenure,” he further demanded.

Labour Party’s landslide victory in Thursday’s general election ended the Conservative Party’s 14-year rule in Britain.
