Mrs El-Rufai, known for correcting grammar online, pointed out that the correct phrase should be “Go up” instead of “Goes up.”
In response, Sani humorously referred to her as “Mummy,” telling her to “Leave me alone.”
He also reminded her that despite their mutual unfollowing, she still lingers around his posts.
This light-hearted interaction quickly gained traction, with Nigerians flooding the comment section with their views.
While some users appreciated the exchange, others took the opportunity to criticize El-Rufai’s focus on grammar correction.
They made reference to her husband’s administration in Kaduna State.
One user, @Balatic, remarked, “If you converted this grammatical energy into moral energy and channeled it on your husband, Southern Kaduna population for no reduce significantly during his 8 horrible years in charge.”
Another user, @Wasser_02, took a jab, saying, “For 8 years as governor’s wife and chief grammar corrector, Kaduna State didn’t improve in any external English examination.”
Despite the criticisms, some users sided with Sani’s grammar usage.
@AustinINstate argued, “Madam, Uncle senator was right… the correct phrase is ‘price goes up.’
“Since ‘price’ is a singular noun, it requires the singular verb ‘goes.’”
The exchange between the two political figures has become a trending topic.
