Eguavoen Unleashes Osimhen, Lookman On Wasps

    Eagles Coach

Interim coach, Austin Eguavoen, is ready to unleash his most potent attacking outlet against the Wasps of Rwanda when his Super Eagles face their opponents in the second 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier today.

Eagles were just one goal up against Benin Republic in their opening fixture last Sunday before Eguavoen introducedVictor Osimhen to join Lookman in the attack and that combination produced two goals in less than 30 minutes of the 3-0 victory.

The Eagles would be aiming to continue the form and the coach can deploy his two strikers against their host from the blast of the whistle this time. Lookman, who recently earned a Ballon d’Or nomination, netted two goals in the last game, while Osimhen added a late strike.

The combination of Nigeria’s attacking strength and improved defence makes them the favourites for the match. For Rwanda, Innocent Nshuti, who scored against Libya, will lead their attack, while their defence will rely on veteran right-back Fitina Omborenga.

Captain Djihad Bizimana Eguavoen started his fourth stint with the national team on a good note and the 58-year-old intends to continue along the win-and-smile path when Nigeria confront Rwanda at the Amahoro National Stadium, Kigali this afternoon.

“We play to win all the time because Nigerians expect their team to win all the time. And because we have a team with great personnel, we play every team with respect but we don’t get intimidated by any.

“Our objective for Tuesday’s game is the three points.” With another victory, Nigeria would take a firm lead in Group D and move closer to securing their spot in the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco.
