Effium/Ezza Effium War: IDPs Accuse Lawmaker Of Lack Of Interest In Peace Initiative

The people of the war-torn Effium community, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have expressed concern over the lack of interest in the peace initiative for the community by the member representing Ebonyi/Ohaukwu federal constituency in the National Assembly, Chief Eze Nwachukwu Eze.

In a press statement issued by EzzaUkwu refugees and signed by its Chairman, Chief Chukwu Nwefuru; and the Secretary, Mr Onwudiwe Olo, the IDPs alleged that Nwachukwu excluded Effium Community which has been embroiled in communal war that led to the loss of hundreds of lives and destruction of properties worth billions of naira from deserving federal government intervention and relief materials.

The IDPs lamented that over 30,000 children in Effium Community which shares borders with Ngbo community in the state have not had access to education, healthcare and good life since 2021 due to the communal war.

They therefore charged Nwachukwu to support the peace initiatives for the Effium community which is in his constituency by getting his community to stop giving access to guerrilla warriors who often attack refugee camps in Effium Community.

They appealed to the federal legislator to attract relief materials to internally displaced persons in Effium Community and support other interventions for the benefit of the people of Effium community.

Effium communal war which began in January 2021 has claimed many lives of children, women and men and properties worth billions of naira.
