The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called for an independent investigation into claims that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officers accepted a ₦15 million bribe to drop money laundering charges against Nigerian controversial cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky.
This was as the NBA asked the Attorney General of Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi and Nigeria Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu to investigate the matter in order to unravel the truth.
Expressing concerns over allegations raised by social media critic, Martins Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan that Bobrisky avoided serving his sentence in a correctional facility after paying an alleged bribe of N15 million.
The NBA further stressed the need for a transparent inquiry to restore public confidence in Nigeria’s legal system.

However, Bobrisky has denied the bribery allegations, and both the EFCC and Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) have launched investigations into the matter.
The NBA emphasized further that if proven true, the case would erode the integrity of the judicial system and lead to severe consequences for the officials involved
The NBA also demanded clarification from NCoS regarding the conditions under which Bobrisky served his sentence, emphasizing that allowing convicts to serve time in private residences could undermine the justice system’s credibility.
The Attorney General, EFCC, and NSA have been urged to ensure the investigation is impartial, and the findings are acted upon to prevent future misconduct.
