Rapper, Eedris Abdulkareem, has put out a new song in honour of Raymond Dokpesi, the late media mogul. Dokpesi, Founder of DAAR Communications – the parent company of AIT and Ray Power FM, died on May 29.
The rapper announced the release of the song, titled, Dokpesi Sun Re, in a touching Instagram post on Tuesday. “For Eedris as Mr. or Mr. Remedy, a freshly minted fire brand rapper newly arrived from Kano, Chief Dokpesi and his Raypower radio empire was a sure getaway to bigger deals and larger audiences,” he wrote.
“The high chief had already provided the platform for any talented artiste to soar as far as possible. “For Eedris as a member of the pioneering hip hop trio The Remedies, it all started in Dokpesi’s establishment. It remains embedded in his mind and he has remained forever grateful for the opportunity.”
In the tribute song, the rapper described Dokpesi as a “true Nigerian and great man” who put smiles on the faces of people around him. “What a life to lose and what a vacuum to leave/ A great man just took a divine bow/ It is very painful to lose such a treasure now/ Chief Raymond Dokpesi was truly a great man,” he sings.
“A strong pillar of our entertainment industry/ A true lover and strong supporter of freedom expression who provided the platform for singers to be nurtured. Sun Re Baba mi you lived a good life.”
