New Telegraph had earlier reported that the Nigerian Army had set up roadblocks 500 meters away on all roads leading to the INEC office in Benin City, creating a secured perimeter around the collation centre.
Access to the area was restricted, with vehicular movement completely halted, and only accredited individuals, including party agents, observers, and media personnel, were allowed entry.
These individuals were subjected to thorough security screenings conducted by officers from the Nigerian Police Force and military personnel stationed at the venue.
INEC had announced on Saturday that the collation of results from the 18 local government areas in Edo State would commence by 10:00 AM on Sunday.
The increased security presence was likely in response to concerns about potential disruptions, as INEC had previously warned against any attempts to interfere with the collation process.
The electoral commission reassured the public that the process would proceed transparently and lawfully.
Tension remains high as voters await the final results of the election, which saw a highly competitive race between major candidates from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Labour Party (LP).
