#EdoDecides2024: INEC Yet To Commence Collation Of Results

Contrary to its earlier announcement, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is yet to commence the collation of results for the Edo State governorship election held on Saturday, causing growing tension among political stakeholders and the electorate.

The INEC head office in Benin City which serves as the main collation centre for the election is filled with anxious party agents and observers awaiting the formal announcement of results.

INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr Anugbum Onuoha, had previously assured that the collation would begin at 10:00 AM on Sunday.

Onuoha in a press statement on Saturday night said, “This is to inform the general public, political stakeholders, and observers that the collation of results for the ongoing Edo State Governors Election will resume today (Sunday) 22nd September 2024 at 10:00 AM.”

However, as of 10:37 AM, the anticipated collation had not yet started, leading to frustration and concern among those gathered at the INEC office.

The delay has heightened tensions, particularly following reports of Governor Godwin Obaseki’s dramatic entrance to the INEC office amid concerns about the slow process.

As the clock ticks, all eyes remain on INEC to uphold the integrity of the electoral process and ensure that the will of the Edo people is accurately reflected in the results.
