Edo Guber: APC Giving Thugs Arms, Police, Military Uniforms To Unleash Mayhem – PDP Alleges

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of arming thugs and giving police and military uniforms to unleash violence during Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State.

The candidate of the PDP, Asue Ighodalo, is set for a fierce contest against APC’s Monday Okpebholo and the Labour Party (LP)’s Olumide Akpata.

National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, at a press conference in Abuja yesterday, also accused the APC of intimidating and harassing the people to prevent them from coming out to vote on Election Day.

The main opposition party also claimed that the APC is using police to arrest and torture its members and supporters on trumped-up charges.

It said: “These harassments, arrests and torture of PDP members and supporters are going on with the knowledge of the Edo State Commissioner of Police and the entreaties by the PDP to the IGP to put such to an end have not received the desired attention.”

Ologunagba, who demanded a free, fair and credible election, however, claimed that, “the PDP has information that some unscrupulous INEC officials have concluded plans to give result sheets to the APC”.

He added: “We call on INEC to ensure the endorsement of all result sheets by the REC and National Commissioner for the zone assigned for the election for authentication at the time of the distribution of election materials to the various local governments, wards and units.”
