The African Action Congress (AAC) gubernatorial candidate for the forthcoming governorship election, Dr Udoh Oberaifo on Sunday commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the progress of the ongoing voter registration exercise despite the initial setback caused by flooding.
Oberaifo, who monitored the exercise in Oredo and Ikpoba-Okha local government area of the state, said CVR was a pivotal step towards ensuring the people’s voices were heard in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.
He described the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise in Edo as impressive following the large turnout of people at various registration areas.
“The process, which began on Monday, May 27, has been commendable despite the setback caused by the flood disaster which destroyed INEC CVR capturing machines.
“As the CVR exercise progresses in the state, I urge all Edolites to go out en masse to register for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), revalidate their existing ones, and for those outside Edo State, transfer your voter cards back home, ” he said
Oberaifo sympathised with the families whose properties were also destroyed in the torrential rain that caused flooding in parts of the state
“Our government, if elected come Sept 21, will give hope and succour to Edo people, “.
He, therefore urges INEC to consider extending the CVR exercise to ensure everyone has an equal opportunity to participate in the electoral process.
Oberaifo condemned the violence that erupted in some registration areas across the state, including Oredo Ward 4 and Owan West local government area.
“This election presents an opportunity to elect a leader who will end the cycle of violence, address our infrastructure deficiencies, improve education, implement policies for economic growth and empowerment, enhance security, and ensure 24 hours electricity.
“My commitment is to make Edo state a viable and prosperous region that will fulfil the dreams of generations to come.
“Therefore, I implore every eligible voter in Edo State to participate in the CVR exercise. Your vote is your voice, and together, we can achieve the Edo of our dreams.
“Let us ensure that our state remains a beacon of democracy, where every vote counts, and every voice is heard.
According to him, Join us in this crucial journey towards a better Edo State. Register, revalidate, transfer, and vote for a future that puts humanity first.
