Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, has denied claims that Senator Monday Okpebholo’s team demanded sitting allowances from the state government, threatening to pull out of the transition committee if not paid.
Nehikhare described these assertions as “completely unfounded and do not reflect the reality of the situation.”
The transition committee, comprising members nominated by the APC and Governor-Elect Okpebholo, met for the first time on Friday, pledging to work towards a seamless transition. Their goal is to provide the incoming government with all necessary information for a sound footing
Nehikhare clarified the situation, stating, “We wish to clarify recent reports suggesting that the Edo State Transition Committee members nominated by APC and Governor-Elect, Senator Okpebholo, requested for sitting allowances from the state government and threatened to boycott meetings if such allowances were not paid”
He emphasized that the committee’s inaugural meeting was cordial and successful, with a collaborative agenda and methodology set in place. The atmosphere was constructive, with a mutual understanding that their collective efforts serve the best interests of Edo’s people.
Nehikhare reassured that the joint team remains committed to its responsibilities, working together for the community’s betterment with transparency and collaboration. As Okpebholo prepares to take office, this development underscores the importance of a smooth transition.
